3 Powerful Prayers for My Daughter as She Grows Up

Share with your friends!

As a mom it can be difficult to help our girls navigate the onset of the teenage years. Besides encouragement, we can pray for them, asking God to strengthen their faith, for protection over their minds and for discernment in their relationships. Here are a few scriptures and prayers for my daughter as she becomes a young woman. #relationships #prayerfordaughters #prayer #teenagers #raisinggirls

I’ll never forget the moment I found out I was having my first girl.

I was waiting (not so) patiently for my husband to arrive to the 4d ultrasound visit when I was called back for the reveal.

In my heart, I knew we were having a girl.

God had prompted me to pray Proverbs 31 over her and I had dreamt that this baby would indeed be a girl.

But nothing prepared me for the moment when the ultrasound tech actually said….your having a girl.

Or the moment when her beautiful petite self came into the world.

My heart was full.

I had visions of us shopping together, staying up late for girl talk and bonding like friends would.

As much as I’ve loved having all these things with all of my girls, I’ve begun to realize the importance of the different roles I play with them.

Do I want to hang out with them and have fun? Of course!

But my role as mom goes deeper than that.

It carries the burden of teaching them of the goodness of God, molding their character and helping them to become the women God has created them to be.

Raising up daughters has been both a joy and a responsibility I hold dear.

I’ve learned that the older they get, the deeper I have to draw in to Christ.

I don’t always have all the answers, nor do I always have the patience to deal with the drama.

But God does. It’s in my moments of surrender to Him that I gain the perspective to know just what to pray and how to pray for them.

Here are 3 areas I like to pray for my daughters:

Her Mind & Thoughts

Lord, thank you for my precious daughters. Father draw them closer to you. I know that You’ve given them the mind of Christ, but Lord help them to truly understand what that means for them. Reveal Your Word to them in such a way that they long to know who they are and Whose they are. Protect their hearts and minds as they navigate the teenage years. Let them be attracted to the things of You over the things of this world. Guard their minds against any attack of the enemy.

I rebuke every lie, plot, ploy or scheme that the enemy would try to use against them, in Jesus’ name. I thank you that Jesus died on the cross so that they would be free- mind, body, soul and spirit. Guide me and direct me as I teach them about You. Let me be a picture of Your grace in their lives. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Her Body Image

Father, I thank you for the awesome responsibility of raising girls. I pray your blessing and favor over each of them. Lord cover them and protect them as they begin to grow. Let them see themselves through your eyes–as a Masterpiece that You’ve perfectly designed. Help them to be modest in how they dress and how they present themselves. Help me to teach them to value themselves as daughters of the Most High. I pray that their confidence would be in You alone–not in what anyone else thinks or says about them. Help them be content in the way You’ve made them and not long for something more. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Her Relationships

God, thank you for my girls and for the relationships you’ve given them. Lord help them to be attracted to good friendships that will help them to deepen their relationship with You. Protect them from friendships that may steer them in the wrong direction or lead them down a bad path. Keep them safe wherever they go. Lord, help me teach them to be good friends and good stewards over their relationships. Let them always be kind and humble, preferring others over themselves. God I pray that they would be comfortable in who You’ve created them to be. That they would never feel like they need to perform for others or be someone they are not in order to gain friendships. Let Your light shine through them as they walk closely with You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Here are a few scriptures I like to pray over my daughters as well:

My dear children, let’s not just talk about love; let’s practice real love. This is the only way we’ll know we’re living truly, living in God’s reality. It’s also the way to shut down debilitating self-criticism, even when there is something to it. For God is greater than our worried hearts and knows more about us than we do ourselves. 1 John 3:18-20 MSG

Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble. Proverbs 13:20 NLT

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11 NIV

So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

2 Corinthians 4:18 NIV

The fear of man brings a snare, But whoever trusts in and puts his confidence in the Lord will be exalted and safe.

Proverbs 29:25 AMP

SALT & LIGHT FEATURE

This week I’m sharing a great article posted in our Salt & Light Facebook Group by Jana Carlson on praying for your family. I LOVE to pray specifically and intentionally for my family directly out of God’s Word. There’s nothing more powerful than praying scriptures.

Jana says this…

…praying Scripture is powerful. Not only are you praying God’s Word and in accordance with His will (which is the most effective prayer you can pray!), your own heart is being shaped and changed and molded by that prayer.

As I’ve prayed these prayers for my family, they have begun to shape my heart’s desires. The answers I’m looking for have changed. These particular passages are those I’ll be praying until I’m with Jesus face-to-face (Isaiah 40:8Matthew 24:35). But I will never tire of praying them.

And I know beyond a shadow of doubt that He is answering them. Because they are His will…
